Wow it's been a while since I've updated this journal.
I've started using watercolour paints/crayons a lot more often now, and wasn't sure of whether or not to use watercolour paper so I posted a poll about it. I've decided to buy a A3 sketchpad for watercolour from WHSmith because they are a very good brand and cheap as well ;D
As you might know I'm applying for Uni this year to study Graphic Design, although all of the unis I want to go to require a foundation level so I'm going to be doing a lot of art pictures
To help me on this I've created a theme for my pictures (because they only want to see 15 pictures) which will be: Myths and Legends.
Any help on what pictures I could draw for this theme? I need ideas on different types of myths, fantasy creatures, old folk tales, stories that you used to know when you were a kiddie... Anything to help me choose what to draw. After that I'll update this journal with a list of what I'll be drawing ^_^
Here's what I've got so far:
1. Medusa
2. Seven Deadly Sins
3. Robin Hood
4. Paris and Helen
5. Pwyll and Rhiannon (Source: [link]
6. Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto (Source: [link]
7. The One-Inch tall boy (Source: [link]
8. Bamboo hats and the rice cakes
9. Chinese Zodiac (Source: [link]
10. Kaguyahime

Also, try something related to the King Arthur legends? Dragons? I've always loved those middle-age English legends. <3 C:
There's also a really beautiful legend about Emine, a Bulgarian cape on Black Sea. An old sailor living in the lighthouse had an extroadinarily beautiful daughter. She grew freely- she swam, she sailed, she was fishing. The rough sea made her strong and independant. One day during a storm she rescued a drowning sailor who had survived a shipwreck. He immediately fell in love with her. When they pared, he promised her he would return, but he forgot the word he gave. From dusk till dawn the girl sat and awaited her beloved on the cape. In the end, in her desperation, she jumped into the sea and the waves turned crimson red. And even today, when the sun rises, the sea's waters around the cape turn red as a reminder of the girl's false love.
Wowzers, that Emine story is... Amazing *__* I can just picture it in my head... I'm definitely noting that one down ! Thank you so much
will suggest some ref's if u wanna try her ^^
Oooh she sounds awesome! What kinda myths evolve around her? ^_^
>>Long long ago, there was this evil demon who plagued the earth and heavens and both the humans and demi gods were terrified of him and tired of his onslaught. So they prayed to the almighty God to rid them of this evil being and bring peace to the creation which was being threatened by his malice. ~As a result of their prayers, God created Durga, a 'super demi-goddess' of sorts with the powers of 5 other goddesses to defeat the evil demon 'mahishasur'
~with ten arms (signifying the power of 5), a plentitude of weapons, lotus flowers (symbolizing purity), conch shells (signifying wisdom), a spinning disc(signifying knowledge of the self - divine enlightenment) she is supposed to be a virgin mother to her two daughters and two sons~and is worshipped as a bestower of peace, strength, prosperity and purity. <3
cool ne? ^^
