James Joyce is a modern writer, famous for his novel 'Ulysses' and 'Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man' - I studied him in college. that's how i know ^^

No, Joyce is not a fantasy writer. You can read Joyce, but I don;t know if you will enjoy it. its purely literary.. you can try 'Dubliners' - its a collection of his short stories. its more suited for young readers ^^
